Quelling Impatience

I saw this today on Skype, from a group member working on his first book:

“I wish I could do it in one day and be done.”

This was my response.

A baby takes nine months from conception to birth. When the baby is born early, it struggles with things that are underdeveloped. Too early, and it may not even survive.

Your book is like a baby, your baby. And you want it to be born healthy, with every chance to thrive. Don’t begrudge the time it takes to reach the goal. Birthing it prematurely will be a disappointment to your readers… and your royalties.
